Garo Baptist Convention, founded in 1867

The Garo Baptist Convention (GBC) is one of the oldest church organizations in northeast India which was founded by the American Baptist missionaries. The Convention has 240,439 baptized members. They are nurtured by 12 Associations with 163 mother churches and 2,407 local/ sister churches. GBC is one of the six member conventions of the Council of Baptist Churches in North East India. About 85 % of the Garos have embraced Christianity, and the rest still follow the traditional Garo religion called "Songsarek."

  • GBC caters to the needs of the Garo Baptist Churches in and around Garo hills, Khasi hills, lower and middle Assam.
